The South Bend Tribune reports Jefferson Centre Associates, managed by real estate investor Dan Wiener, plans interior and exterior upgrades to the more than 90-year-old building.
The building houses office and storefront space. The developer’s plans include masonry improvement, new canopies, LED lighting and new signage on the outside. Interior plans include new elevators, upgraded heating, cooling, ventilation and electrical systems and a renovated lobby.
Jefferson Centre Associates is working with South Bend-based Epoch Architecture + Planning on the improvements. Epoch principal Kyle Copelin tells The South Bend Tribune that the building has had "a poor reputation for a long time," and the work will result in a huge improvement.
The publication says the project marks the third major renovation for the building since it was completed in the 1920s. The building is currently 45-50 percent leased. Developers say the upgrades will help attract new tenants.
