Sacks most recently served as CFO of Zero Motorcycles in California.
Sortera said Monday that Sacks will lead the finance team as the company expands its commercialization work and reach across the country.
The company has developed a technology platform it says allows for the complex sorting and recycling of mixed aluminum alloys that can then be put back into the manufacturing process.
“As we strive to transform the recycling industry through cutting-edge technology and establish Sortera as a crucial player in the $1 trillion metals and recycling markets, we are thrilled to welcome Curt to the leadership team,” CEO Michael Siemer said in a news release. “His contributions and experience of helping companies navigate through rapid growth phases will be of great value to Sortera, as we continue to focus our efforts on growth, advancing our technology into new materials, establishing our domestic reach, and contributing to overall global sustainability efforts.”
Prior to his time at Zero Motorcycles, Sacks served as CFO for GigOptix Inc. and Endwave Corp., both based in California.
Last summer, Sortera closed on a $30.5 million Series C round of funding that it said would be used to expand its North American operations. That round earned the company the “Deal of the Year” award at this year’s TechPoint Mira Awards.
The company recently established a 200,000-square-foot facility in Markle, about 25 miles outside of Fort Wayne, that has reached a capacity of sorting 220 million pounds of scrap metal per year.
