SMWC announced in December it was adding men’s basketball for the 2021-22 season.
The school in Vigo County now offers 14 varsity sports.
“I’m honored and excited to join the team at SMWC,” said Mitchell. “I thank God for opening the door and giving me the right opportunity to return to coaching basketball at the college level, along with the support of my wife and daughter.”
Most recently, Mitchell served as the assistant professor of sport management and kinesiology department chair at Bethel University in Mishawaka.
He has also served at Northern New Mexico University, Illinois Institute of Technology, IUPUI and Milikin University in Decatur, IL.
“His commitment and passion to the student-athletes, supports our objectives and our efforts to ensure student success in both athletics and academics,” said Deanna Bradley, SMWC athletic director.
In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Mitchell will also serve as an assistant professor.
