The sculpture, called Convergence, will be installed in the park in June 2018.
The sculpture was designed by artist Linda Howard. It will stand approximately 19 feet high, 28 feet wide and 28 feet deep and will weigh approximately 2,800 pounds.
“I’m honored to have been selected for such a prestigious project,” said Howard. “Convergence is an uplifting sculpture. I anticipate many hours of delight as I create this unifying sculpture. And, I look forward to seeing the positive reactions from park visitors when the sculpture is installed next year.”
The parks department says the sculpture represents the flow of the three rivers coming together, "which has unified this region and the people." The creation of the sculpture will be funded by a $100,000 donation from the Waterfield Foundation along with a 50 percent match from the Indianapolis-based Lilly Endowment Inc.
Linda Howard is an Illinois native currently living in Florida who has created and installed sculptures in 18 states and Australia.
Fort Wayne officials broke ground on Promenade Park in late June. Construction on the $20 million first phase of the Riverfront Fort Wayne project is expected to take 18 months to complete.
