The commission last week awarded a bid for the sale of the property at 22 W. Joliet St., according to our partners at Lakeshore Public Media.
Town Manager Jim Gorman said the developer will be made public at an upcoming plan commission meeting. The sale price, he said, will be $240,000.
The town last fall issued a request for proposals for acquisition and redevelopment of real estate for the site. The redevelopment commission sought a multi-story, mixed-use development with retail on the ground floor and condominiums above.
Gorman said the purchaser agreed to develop the property according to the Joliet Street Overlay District in the town’s zoning ordinance, which encourages mixed-use development versus single-family residential or stand-alone retail.
The land is within a riverfront district established by the town to help businesses acquire liquor licenses more easily.
The Lake County town of about 30,000 residents is about 14 miles southwest of Gary.
