Sallie Mae Grows Indy Presence

Subscribe NowDelaware-based Sallie Mae (Nasdaq: SLM) has detailed its $15.7 million expansion plans for Indianapolis. The college financing company says it will add nearly 280 jobs over the next 18 months. Sallie Mae recently moved from a nearby office to three floors of a Woodfield Crossing location on the city’s northeast side. The Indiana Economic Development Corp. says the average salaries of the new positions will be 25 percent higher than the state average.
Sallie Mae brought its private education loan customer services operations back to the United States last year.
Chief Executive Officer Raymond Quinlan says "this commitment of information technology and customer service jobs is a natural extension of our focus on innovation and customer experience. This investment completes our customer service transformation from offshore and outsourced, to onshore and insourced. We are confident that the talent pool in Indianapolis will be an asset to our growing enterprise."
The Indianapolis office is the company’s second-largest, currently employing nearly 200 of Sallie Mae’s 1,200 throughout the country. It has already added 60 jobs this year and is continuing to hire for customer service and IT openings.
The IEDC has offered a total of around $2.4 million in conditional tax credits and training grants.
