As part of the grand opening celebration of the Salesforce Tower in downtown Indianapolis, Chief Executive Officer Marc Benioff said the company will add 500 new local apprentices by 2020. That is in addition to the tech giant’s previously-announced commitment for 800 new jobs over the next five years. The tower is the company’s largest hub outside of its global headquarters in San Francisco.
Salesforce says the move shows the company’s commitment to growing in Indianapolis. The company says Salesforce Tower "will be a hub for world-class, diverse talent."
"I’m thrilled to celebrate this grand opening and to commemorate Salesforce’s investment in Indiana," said Governor Eric Holcomb said. "Salesforce’s commitment to bringing hundreds of new jobs to our state further accelerates Indiana’s status as the Midwest hub for technology and innovation"
The tech company says the 500 apprentices will be part of Salesforce Futureforce, designed to train and hire for the jobs of tomorrow and stress inclusion and equality.
Salesforce first announced in May that it would establish a headquarters in the former Chase Tower in downtown Indianapolis and add up to 800 jobs by 2021. The tower houses Salesforce Marketing Cloud, which was founded in 2000 as ExactTarget. The building includes a so-called "Ohana Floor." Located on the 47th floor of the Salesforce Tower, it is meant to be a flexible space for Salesforce meetings and collaboration what the company says will be shared with the local community.
Salesforce currently has about 1,500 employees in the Indianapolis area and more than 25,000 worldwide.
