News Release

RENSSELAER, Ind. (June 10, 2014) – The Saint Joseph's College Board of Trustees has named Dr. Stephen Hulbert the interim president of the College. RPA, Inc. has been hired to conduct a nationwide search for a permanent president.

Hulbert comes to SJC after serving as president of Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, La., 2003-13. His accomplishments include securing IV-4 university status within the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools; transitioning the university to selective admissions; enhancing student ACT score averages; and completing a $74 million renovation of academic and student support service facilities. Hulbert also served as chancellor of the University of Montana Western from 1999 to 2003.

“I am honored to have been invited to serve as the president of Saint Joseph’s College during this time of leadership transition,” said Hulbert. “I look forward to working with the Board of Trustees and the full SJC community during the year ahead.”

“Saint Joseph's College is very fortunate to have Dr. Hulbert as its interim president,” said Ben Sponseller '74, Chairman of the SJC Board of Trustees. “His success and experience at small institutions such as Nicholls State University and the University of Montana Western will bring SJC a wide variety of options as we continue to grow and strengthen our College.”

Hulbert succeeds Dr. F. Dennis Riegelnegg, whose term as SJC’s president began in 2009. Hulbert begins his duties on July 1.

Named a “character-building college” by the Templeton Foundation, a “Best Midwestern College” by the Princeton Review, and “Best Value” and “Best Midwestern College” by US News & World Report, Saint Joseph's College is a four-year, Catholic college offering 27 majors, 4 group majors, 35 minors, and 9 pre-professional programs, complemented by the nationally acclaimed Core Program. Founded and sponsored by the Missionaries of the Precious Blood, SJC is located in Rensselaer, Indiana, approximately 90 minutes from both Chicago and Indianapolis, on a park-like campus of 180 acres and has an enrollment of nearly 1,200 students.
