The Saab Training and Education Pathways program allows eligible employees to earn 18 free college credits toward an advanced manufacturing certificate or an associate’s degree in Industrial Technology. The primary requirement is that workers must complete Saab’s structural training academy, which is part of the onboarding process for manufacturing positions.
“With today’s announcement, employees will have a built-in jumpstart on a college degree simply by completing the required training at Saab,” Erik Smith, president and CEO of Saab in the U.S, said in a news release. “This new benefit has the potential to help employees realize a dream of earning a technical certificate or a college degree while working at Saab.”
Workers who previously completed the structural training course can also take advantage of the credit program.
Sweden-based Saab operates a $37 million advanced manufacturing facility in the Purdue Research Foundation’s Discovery Park District, which opened in 2021 and will ultimately employ some 300 workers.
The company this week received a nearly $102 million contract from Boeing to produce the aft section of the fuselage for the U.S. Air Force’s new T-7A Red Hawk advanced trainer aircraft.
