Rose-Hulman Touts Record Female Enrollment

A new freshman class arrives Friday at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and the school says it includes a record number of female students. More than 160 female first-year students make up a record 30 percent of the incoming freshman class.

Rose-Hulman says female freshman enrollment records were also set for various majors, including computer science with nearly 35 percent and physics, engineering physics and optical engineering with more than 30 percent. Jim Goecker, vice president for enrollment management and strategic communications, credits the institute’s efforts to boost female enrollment over the past year.

"The record-breaking number of female students enrolling to Rose-Hulman is a tribute to the institute’s environment of excellence and these students seeing themselves feeling at home on campus," said Goecker.

Rose-Hulman’s marketing campaign, "The Future Faces of STEM," showcased female STEM majors on campus in hopes of attracting more female students in the future. The institute cites the American Society for Engineering Education, which says women made up 21.4 percent of engineering students in the fall of 2015.
