Rokita served as Indiana Secretary of State from 2002-2010 and in Indiana’s 4th District in Congress from 2011-2019. He is challenging current Attorney General Curtis Hill, who was suspended for 30 days by the Indiana Supreme Court on May 11, after the court ruled he violated professional conduct standards and committed battery in a case stemming from Hill’s behavior with four women at a gathering at a downtown Indianapolis bar in March 2018.
“Among the Republicans running for Attorney General, no other candidate has won a statewide general election twice, no other candidate has a multi-office proven record of standing behind our God-given rights. I am A-rated in defending our Constitution’s 2nd Amendment, and I have a 100% proven voting record of defending the right-to-life, no exceptions,” said Rokita.
“Counting on perennial candidate Todd Rokita to buoy the AG’s race is like counting on gasoline to put out a housefire. Todd Rokita’s eleventh hour entrance is poised to implode what was already an embarrassing effort from Indiana Republicans. Todd Rokita will all but ensure the GOP AG’s race devolves into a bare-knuckled brawl. Indiana Republicans’ meltdown continues to make the Attorney General’s race a prime pick-up opportunity for Hoosier Democrats”, said Indiana Democratic Party Executive Director Lauren Ganapini.
With the addition of Rokita, four Republicans are seeking the position. Hill and Rokita join Bose, McKinney & Evans attorney John Westercamp and Decatur County Prosecutor Nate Harter. Two Democrats are running for the position, State Senator Karen Tallian (D-Ogden Dunes) and former Evansville Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel.
The state’s Republican convention will be broadcast live from the WISH-TV studios from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on June 18. The Democrat convention will be virtually held on June 13.
