Road School to Get Underway at Purdue

Thousands are expected to attend Purdue University’s 103rd annual Road School Transportation Conference and Expo beginning Monday in West Lafayette. Governor Eric Holcomb will take part in a keynote discussion focusing on a long-term plan for the state’s roads and bridges.

Holcomb’s presentation is set for 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday in the North and South ballrooms of Purdue Memorial Union.

State Rep. Tim Brown (R-41), who is the co-chair of the Funding Indiana’s Roads for a Stronger, Safer Tomorrow Task Force will take part in the event’s opening session along with Indiana Department of Transportation Commissioner Joe McGuinness and Frankfort Mayor Chris McBarnes. That panel begins at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday at Stewart Center’s Loeb Playhouse.

Another big focus of this year’s Road School will be the Ohio River Bridges Project. Purdue Joint Transportation Research Program Director Darcy Bullock says several sessions will spotlight the $2.3 billion project, which is expected to support 15,000 new jobs over the next 30 years and generate $87 billion for the regional economy.

This year’s Road School includes more than 150 sessions featuring 250 speakers and moderators. Bullock says he expects this year’s attendance to top last year’s total of 2,600.
