A historic building in Richmond will soon have new tenants after undergoing much-needed renovations. Indiana Landmarks says the Pennsylvania Railroad Station, also known as the Depot, will house offices for Better Homes and Gardens First Realty and the Economic Development Corp. of Wayne County.

First Realty purchased the building in July and plans to use a $500,000 loan toward repairs and renovations to turn the Depot into a usable space, according to Indiana Landmarks. The building’s previous owner, Richmond Furniture Gallery Owner Roger Richert, also contributed to some of the repairs.

First Realty plans to use the second floor of the Depot for office space, which is expected to open by the end of May. The EDC of Wayne County will also lease 2,350 square feet of space by June. 

The Depot, which was constructed in 1902 by Chicago-based architect Daniel Burnham, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Indiana Landmarks says the building has been vacant since the railroad ceased operations in 1972, despite other plans for redevelopment that ultimately fell through.
