Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report the renovations are designed to improve comfort for attendees at the 94-year-old venue.
As part of the project, crews will replace the original wooden seats with wider, cushioned seats, widen aisles between seating areas and install handrails, install air conditioning to allow for more summer events, and replace the existing heating system.
The venue will also add handicapped seating.
“We’re trying to make the experience a little better for everyone,” Civic Auditorium Director Brett Binversie told the publication. “It’s a win, win for everybody, and we can’t wait for this to occur.”
Renovations are slated to begin in June and take a little over two months to complete.
The project is being funded primarily using federal COVID relief funds.
