The new store at 1705 N. Barron St. in the western Ohio city is part of a partnership between Kroger’s Cincinnati/Dayton division and Richmond-based Reid Health.
Reid purchased the former Kmart space, about 15 minutes from the Indiana-Ohio state line, in 2019 in hopes of expanding health care services. The regional health system bases its main hospital in Richmond and has 50 satellite locations in east-central Indiana and west-central Ohio.
The new Kroger store will be about 72,000 square feet and feature grocery pick-up services, a gas station and a pharmacy with a drive-thru. The store is expected to create more than 100 new jobs.
“We have proudly served the community of Eaton since 1991 and are excited to increase job opportunities and expand access to fresh and affordable food for residents,” Kroger’s Cincinnati/Dayton division president, Ann Reed said in a news release. “Most importantly, our collaboration with Reid Health will increase access to critical healthcare services for residents as we lead with our mission to provide a world of care and build healthier lives.”
The news release from Reid Health stated a construction timeline would be provided at a later date. The health system will continue offering services to Ohio’s Preble County through its Reid Eaton Family & Specialty Care location at 550 Hallmark Drive.
“We’re excited to work with Kroger on this project,” Reid Health President Craig Kinyon said. “Our mission to lead our communities to well-being, one person at a time goes beyond healthcare services. This new store will expand Kroger’s offerings here and enhance the quality of life for those who call Eaton and Preble County home.”
