Last year, the Wayne County Board of Commissioners awarded Reid Health EMS a five-year contract to provide emergency ambulance service beginning in 2022.
The contract covers all areas of the county aside from the city of Richmond and Wayne Township, which will continue to be served by the Richmond Fire Department.
“We’re excited to continue to build upon our already-high-quality EMS program,” said Ryan Williams, director of EMS, forensics, and trauma services for Reid Health. “We look forward to providing that same great level of care to Wayne County residents in these areas in the years ahead.”
Reid says it began providing emergency ambulance services in 2019, when it was awarded the contract for southwestern Wayne County. The health system’s ambulance services also include Union County.
The area had previously been served by Culberson Ambulance Service for more than 50 years, but the company’s owner, Rick Culberson, recently announced his retirement. Reid Health says it is working with the company to provide a smooth transition and has hired some Culberson employees, while also keeping an ambulance stationed at the former Culberson location in Hagerstown.
In the eastern part of the county, Reid says it is taking over for Red Line EMS.
