Reid Health says demolition has begun, but there are currently no definite plans for the location, which has been vacant for more than a decade.
“The building is an eyesore and a hazard,” said Jeff Cook, director of Engineering and Environmental Services for Reid Health. “There is nothing salvageable in there.”
Fayette County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Brian Durham says the acquisition is welcomed news.
“I was fortunate — or unfortunate — to visit the building in 2017. The ceiling had collapsed, the walls were falling, what was left inside had molded and there was water all over the floor from busted pipes. It was a mess,” he said.
Despite not having immediate plans, Reid Health President and Chief Executive Officer Craig Kinyon says the acquisition furthers their commitment to Connersville.
“We will continue to assess additional and sustainable services we can provide to support the healthcare needs of the people we serve in the region.”
