The new facility, being constructed at the site of a former Kmart store, will replace the former Fayette Regional Health System facility the health system acquired in 2019.
Reid Health first announced plans for the project in September 2022 and ground was initially broken the following month. However, a spokesperson said work was delayed while the health system worked to ensure all plans were finalized.
“This is a complex project with a large number of details that had to be considered before we could begin the actual work,” Jeff Cook, director of engineering at Reid Health, said in a news release. “It’s been a pleasure working with city, county, and economic development leaders to get to this point.”
The nearly 107,000-square-foot facility will include an on-site helipad, which Reid says will be the county’s first in 30 years to be located adjacent to emergency services, as well as radiology services, lab services, and a pharmacy.
The new location will also feature a mix of primary care and several specialty care services, such as cardiology, oncology, OB/GYN, orthopedic, and ear, nose and throat. A 400-space parking lot is also planned.
Reid Health expects the new campus at 2500 Park Road to be operational by spring 2026.
The current facility at 1941 Virginia Avenue dates back more than 100 years, and the health system said investing in renovations would not have been feasible due to deferred maintenance caused by Fayette Regional’s financial troubles.
“We’re excited to see a former blighted area transformed into a beautiful facility that will serve the medical needs of our community and bring several new jobs,” said Connersville Mayor Chad Frank. “Having access to medical care plays a major role in the retention and attraction of residents and businesses to our community.”
Reid Health said it will provide updates on the construction’s progress on its website.
