Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report a referendum will be on the ballot to construct a nearly 50,000-square-foot indoor sports arena at the facility.
The addition would be used for soccer, baseball, softball, and football, among other activities. The arena would include a 32,000-square-foot artificial turf field, which officials say could allow for four soccer fields, and a 40-foot high ceiling, according to the publication.
During the summer, the facility would feature a large hardwood floor that would be placed over the turf and could provide six basketball/volleyball courts. The facility could also house batting cages, golf driving cages, lacrosse and ultimate frisbee.
Officials say, if the referendum is approved, construction on the facility could begin in September 2019 and take about 14 months to complete.
