The companies will invest $1.3 million into a new Crawfordsville facility and create up to 284 jobs by 2020. Safe Hiring Solutions provides background checks and employment screening for businesses, schools and other organizations. The Crawfordsville office will serve as the headquarters for Safe Recruiter Solutions, which works to help manufacturing companies find qualified workers.
During an interview last month on Inside INdiana Business Television, Safe Recruiter Solutions Chief Executive Officer Shane Powell talked about the company’s efforts to battle the skills gap. He says low unemployment and a growing number of retiring Baby Boomers has resulted in strong demand for workers. Powell says Safe Recruiter Solutions works with schools, students and companies to develop a "road map" to advanced manufacturing and logistics careers, including internships and externships.
The companies say the growth is needed to meet increased demand. Together, they currently employ 37 full-time associates. They plan to hire for positions including operations, recruiting, business development, marketing, human resources and software development. The Indiana Economic Development Corp. says the new positions are expected to offer salaries 30 percent higher than the state’s average wage.
Safe Hiring Solutions Chief Executive Officer Mike McCarty says the company does business in all 50 states and around the world, "but we wanted to stay and expand in an area that involved the communities that mean so much to us." The company was founded in 2004 and boasts clients including th eBoys and Girls Club of Indianapolis, the city of Santa Fe, Indiana University and Purdue University.
The IEDC is offering Safe Hiring Solutions more than $2.7 million in conditional tax credits and training grants based on the job creation plans. The city of Crawfordsville has approved additional incentives.
