The program is a 10-month initiative to align K-12 curricular and programming offerings to current educational and workforce needs in the Indiana Uplands region.
Bloomington-based ROI has awarded development and implementation grants to 18 regional school districts, affecting 85 schools and over 35,000 students since the program’s inception.
“Throughout the Ready Schools process, these school districts have embraced the important role they must play in regional economic prosperity,” ROI President and CEO Tina Peterson said in a news release. “This engagement will help schools carefully develop strategies to equip students from pre-K through graduation with the skills necessary to thrive in regionally relevant careers and 21st century jobs.”
If the districts complete the first four phases of the program, they will start implementing strategic plans in fall 2024. Schools already far into the process have created student-run businesses and built innovation space with the grant dollars, the organization said.
The first cohort was launched in 2017 and included three area school districts.
The program will match opportunities with what each area is looking for in a workforce, especially in the life science, defense and advanced manufacturing sectors.
