He is being recognized for his accomplishments in the field of chemical reaction engineering. Varma came to Purdue in 2004 from the University of Notre Dame, where was chair of the department of chemical engineering and founding director of the center for molecularly engineered materials. The award recognizes Purdue faculty for outstanding and recognized contributions in the areas of pure or applied science or engineering.
