Purdue names new College of Science dean

Flesch comes in as the Frederick L. Hovde Dean after serving as the senior associate dean for faculty affairs in the College of Science for the past five years. She joined Purdue in 2005 as faculty in the Department of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences.
“Her research focuses on understanding how relative tectonic plate motions are accommodated throughout diffusely deforming continental regions where plate tectonic theory breaks down and quantifying the forces involved in driving this deformation,” the university said in a news release.
Flesch received the American Geophysical Union’s Paul G. Silver Award for Outstanding Scientific Service in 2022. She succeeds Patrick Wolfe, who was appointed as provost and executive vice president for academic affairs and diversity in January.
