Students admitted to Purdue will now have until June 1 to accept their offers from the university.
The issue stems from problems related to the newly updated FAFSA form, which was released three months later than usual and has been rife with glitches. Many students who have filed their forms have yet to receive college financial aid offers.
Purdue originally extended its admission deadline to May 15 but decided to push the date further back.
“We still don’t have the correct records for more than half of our prospective students, and we won’t have this information until May 1 or later,” Cherise Hall, vice provost for enrollment management at Purdue, said in a news release. “Given the additional delays, Purdue wants to provide more time to students and families so they can make the best decision possible.”
However, the university said it does plan to start sending award notifications at the end of April to some students for whom it has the correct information.
Purdue is also extending its priority deadline for learning communities and mutually selected roommates to May 20. The overall housing deadline has also been extended to June 5.
Other universities around the state have previously pushed their admission deadlines. Indiana University extended its deadline to May 15, while Ball State University, the University of Southern Indiana, and Indiana State University pushed their deadlines to June 1.
