The new terminal is designed to meet current Americans with Disabilities Act requirements and will include baggage claim, ticketing and passenger screening areas. Purdue said in a news release that the existing terminal’s age also was a basis for the grant.
The new, approximately 9,400-square-foot facility will be located west of the existing terminal.
The university announced in February that the terminal would be named after after the first female aviator to fly alone across the Atlantic Ocean who was also a Purdue instructor.
A groundbreaking for the $11.8 million Earhart Terminal was held in May and the project is scheduled to be done in September 2025.
Currently, there are 24 round-trip flights each week between the Purdue airport and Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.
