Purdue again ranked among top global universities for utility patents

Subscribe NowA new ranking released by the National Academy of Inventors shows Purdue University remains in the top 10 in the world for U.S. utility patents. The university is ranked No. 6 with 198 patents from the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office in 2023.
Purdue’s ranking falls one spot from No. 5 on the 2022 list, but the university’s number of patents is up from 192 that same year.
“Purdue Innovates takes great pride in celebrating the outstanding achievements of our researchers and their pioneering endeavors,” Brooke Beier, senior vice president of Purdue Innovates, said in a news release. “Our committed team works tirelessly to protect the intellectual property arising from these innovations, strategically positioning them for successful commercialization.”
Indiana University is also ranked on the 2023 list at No. 73 with 46 patents issued, up one spot from the previous year.
The top five universities on the list are The Regents of the University of California, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, The University of Texas system, King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in Saudi Arabia, and Stanford University.
