Proterial Cable America lays off 109 in New Albany

All employees were made aware of the upcoming layoffs April 4. Affected employees are not represented by a labor union.
A reason for the layoffs was not provided. Proterial did not respond to multiple requests for more information from Inside INdiana Business.
The first round will start Nov. 17 or anytime in the two weeks after, according to the June notice. The remaining employees will be let go on or within two weeks of Feb. 28, March 31 and May 31.
The role most significantly affected serves as general operators with 44 employees. Roles like general and assistant manger were also eliminated. The layoffs will be permanent, the notice said.
Proterial was known as Hitachi Cable America before changing its name in September 2022.
The Pensacola News Journal reported the company laid off 202 workers last year at a plant in Pensacola, Florida. The company stated in its Florida notice that it was moving operation to Mexico.
The company produces medical products and automotive and high-performance cables.
