Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report organizers of the Progressive Chicagoland In-Water Boat Show called off the 37 year-old event that was set to run this weekend. Organizers say the show has had a more than $68 million economic impact since it was launched.
The publication says no reason for the cancellation was given by the Ohio-based Lake Erie Marine Trades Association, which added it could be open to being involved again with the event in the future.
The scope of the event, which at one time featured some 500 boats, has diminished since the previous economic downturn. LaPorte County Convention & Visitors Bureau Executive Director Jack Arnett tells The Times the decision is not unexpected and a local committee has already found a Chicago-based promoter that has expressed interest in bringing back the event as early as next year.
In addition to the Michigan City event, the LEMTA’s slate of annual shows is all in Ohio and includes three in-water and one indoors. Read more from The Times of Northwest Indiana by clicking here.
