President: Relocating University Campus to Indiana ‘a No-Brainer’

Horizon University President Bill Goodrich calls the decision to relocate the small, Christian school’s campus from San Diego to the Geist area of Indianapolis "a no-brainer." The college, which also offers courses online, launched in 1993 and received accreditation from the Association of Biblical Higher Education in 2013. Goodrich tells Inside INdiana Business moving the university will bring it closer to the existing K-12 and Bible College options based at the 100-acre Horizon Christian Fellowship property property.

He says the move represents a "reboot" for the private educational institution. Indiana, Goodrich says, provides more "openness" to the way leaders and the board want to run the university and it offers a climate that was slipping away in California. The old campus out West was a former junior high school property that was sold "out from underneath" the Horizon Christian Fellowship in the state.

Goodrich says with all the educational options located in one place, Horizon University will offer dual credit courses to its high schoolers. Students enrolled in the university will also have the option to live on-campus. "There’s a lot of good universities here (in Indiana), there’s a lot of good schools here, one might say why would we need to add another one here — as a matter of fact, we’ve been asked that." Goodrich responds with the vision for Horizon University, which involves strengthening people to "grow academically, so they can go out into the world, but also integrated into that is the strong biblical teachings and we find in Indiana, there’s an openness to that."

Horizon University offers bachelor’s degrees in organizational leadership, biblical studies and leadership in ministry, as well as an associate’s degree in biblical studies and certificates in chaplaincy and biblical counseling.
