Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report North Shore Health Centers will build the 50,000 square-foot facility on 10 acres across from Portage Hospital.
Officials will break ground next spring and the building is expected to open in the fall of 2019. The publication says the project will create 100 jobs.
David Hall, chief administrative officer for North Shore Health Centers, tells The Times the facility will allow the organization to expand its services to include mammography, optometry, and additional dental services. It will also include administrative offices, which will be moved from their current location.
The council approved access to borrow up to $18 million in bonds with a lower interest rate. Hall says the city and taxpayers are not at risk of having to repay the money.
North Shore currently employs more than 300 people at seven locations in Porter and Lake counties.
