In this week’s Agbioscience podcast presented by AgriNovus Indiana, Anya Gandy says together they can improve business outcomes both for the environment and the bottom line.
“One of the big myths that we’ve heard over the last decades is that focusing on sustainability comes at a cost to profits. But when companies implement sustainability efforts, what they actually realize is a huge part of sustainability is efficient operations that also keep costs low,” said Gandy to AgriNovus CEO and podcast host Mitch Frazier.
Inari, which has a major research and development space at the Purdue Research Park in West Lafayette, conducts research on gene-edited seed technology to help improve crop yield, while improving the efficient use of water and fertilizer.
“And on top of that, especially these days, there can be huge market opportunities in In the sustainability space, because making things more sustainable is by definition, creating value for people and the planet that supports us all,” said Gandy.
Gandy’s career path is a unique compilation from cowboy on the Great Plains to corporate America with Google, and now with a stop a leading ag-tech company. But she says the common thread has been sustainability.
“As climate change advances, gene editing guided by predictive design and systems thinking can help us rapidly adapt to more extreme weather events, degraded soil, and to feed this population that’s already surpassed 8 billion,” Gandy said. “Now we have the potential to create a positive impact a positive footprint in the world. And that’s really exciting to me, we need more companies creating that type of positive value.”
