Mark Schindel talks about his experience and the recent sale of his company in the latest Ag+Bio+Science podcast presented by AgriNovus Indiana. “People have ideas. They have ideas to do things differently, potentially better,” Schindel said to podcast and Inside INdiana Business host Gerry Dick.
In June, Owl Manor was acquired by animal health company Zoetis Inc. (NYSE: ZTS), the world’s largest producer of medicine and vaccinations for pets and livestock.
Owl Manor developed a portfolio of products to help horses and dogs recover from injuries that cause lameness.
“The technology platform itself is associated with regenerative medicine,” explained Schindel, who said his business partners and himself had worked in Warsaw’s orthopedic sector.
“My partners had developed and commercialized these products in the human market. They are devices that use blood from the patient. In our case, it was horses and dogs. They concentrate a combination of cells, platelets, growth factors, anti-inflammatory proteins, and they’re using that to address injuries associated with osteoarthritis and soft tissue tendon type injuries.”
Schindel says taking their products into the animal health space was a chance to pursue an entrepreneurial dream.
“There’s a lot of connecting dots that can be leveraged, not just with orthopedic medical devices, but I think in the agbiotech space. There’s likely a lot of synergies across those companies. And certainly, business experience can be leveraged from different industries as well.”
