The Herald Republican in Angola reports the Steuben County Council has approved a $1.5 million loan for Ohio-based RES Polyflow LLC for infrastructure work related to the project.
Plans for the more than $130 million facility, to be located in the town of Ashley, have been in the works since 2015. When complete, the project is expected to create up to 136 jobs.
Earlier this month, California-based renewable energy development company Brightmark Energy announced it had acquired a majority interest in RES Polyflow and is investing $10 million into the company. Additionally, Brightmark said it is committing $47 million toward the Indiana facility.
The Ashley facility will have the capability of converting 100,000 tons of plastic waste into 18 million gallons of ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel and naphtha blend stocks and five million gallons of wax per year, according to Brightmark. The company says BP will purchase the fuels and California-based AM WAX will purchase the commercial-grade waxes produced at the facility.
Angola-based contractor JICI Inc. tells the publication if all preparations fall into place, groundbreaking on the facility could come as early as April 1.
