City and community leaders have broken ground on the new Downtown Plainfield Parking Structure, which is expected to be complete in the late summer or early fall of 2020.
The parking structure will include 250 parking spaces and 8,100 square feet of commercial and retail space. Construction will officially begin in June.
“Today is certainly a celebratory moment, because we have been talking about increasing parking in Downtown Plainfield for almost 20 years," said Robin Brandgard, president of the Plainfield Town Council. "Public input sessions held in 2017 verified the need for such, and this is an incredible first step to investing in the heart of the Town.”
Brandgard says the parking structure will be the first of several projects in the pipeline. The town is also planning to begin work this year on a $21 million mixed-use development, known as The Barlow, later this year.
