Subscribe NowSouth Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg has announced Deputy Chief of Staff and Policy Director Suzanna Fritzberg is leaving to accept a position at Schmidt Futures in New York City. She will drive grantmaking in the area of economic mobility, investing in ideas and projects that strengthen the middle class.
Fritzberg joined the city as deputy chief of staff in 2016 and assumed the role of policy director in 2017. During her time in the Mayor’s Office, she chaired the Mayor’s Working Group on Chronic Homelessness, spearheaded the initiative to combat childhood lead exposure, secured over $3 million in state and federal grants for home remediation, and recently developed and secured the passage of an ordinance establishing the Rental Safety Verification Program.
In addition to her appointment on the city of South Bend Board of Public Works, Fritzberg also served on the board of directors of United Way of St. Joseph County and as a member of the Lead Affinity Group.
