County commissioners have awarded nearly $1 million in American Rescue Plan Act dollars to fiber internet provider RTC Communications to extend its services to hundreds of homes and businesses in the area. Residents are expected to see work pick up soon.
RTC Communications will match that funding with its own equal share and will break ground later this month on infrastructure in the county supporting the internet services.
The company plans to extend its existing services in the nearby Williams, Indiana, area into western Lawrence County. RTC Communications will contract with Lineal Contracting Inc. on the expansion, which is expected to take about eight months.
“The need for broadband fiber continues to be a necessity in our rural communities, and RTC Communications is making it a mission to ensure our Southern Indiana communities continue to receive these world class services,” RTC Communications CEO Kirk Lehman said in a news release.
A public open house is scheduled for 2 p.m. Oct. 24 at the Williams Community Center to meet with RTC Communications representatives. Questions can also be directed to 812-486-3211.
