On-the-Job Injuries Decline in Indiana

Subscribe NowThe Indiana Department of Labor has released its annual report that analyzes the number of Hoosier workers injured on the job. It says in 2020, the state’s rate of nonfatal workplace injuries and illnesses reached a historic low of 3.1 per 100 full-time workers, compared to the previous low of 3.3 set in 2019.
Indiana conducts the survey from a sample of over 5,000 employers prepared by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The DOL says the selected companies represent nearly all Hoosier industries and all sizes of establishments.
The state agency says Indiana’s rate of workplace injuries has improved dramatically from 1994 when Indiana registered an all-time high of 11.3 nonfatal injuries and illnesses per 100 full-time workers. The Labor Department says Indiana’s nonfatal injury and illness rate has decreased by 72.57% in the last 25 years.
The Indiana Department of Labor says safety professionals use the data to determine trends in workplace safety and health.
