News Release

New Albany, Ind. — One Southern Indiana (1si) reached a major milestone in its history when it welcomed today the successful registration and sign-up of its 1,000th member. McRae Court Reporting LLC of New Albany, Ind., a local business that provides verbatim transcripts of legal proceedings, achieved this distinction.

1si is the local economic development organization and chamber of commerce for Clark and Floyd counties. 1si’s mission is to provide the connections, resources and services that help businesses innovate and thrive in the Southern Indiana/Louisville metro area.

“I’m thrilled to be at One Southern Indiana at the time this terrific organization achieves this long-time goal in membership,” said Wendy Dant Chesser, president and CEO. “Any business organization gains strength as its base grows and becomes active in shaping its policies, and I look forward to growing our membership to the next 1,000 members.”

“Achieving this milestone is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the board of directors and the staff at 1si,” said Dale Gettelfinger, 2013-2014 chairman of the 1si board of directors. “We appreciate the support and confidence of every one of our members and stand ready to serve.”

The announcement of 1si's 1,000th member comes almost to the day of the organization's eighth anniversary; 1si was formed on July 1, 2006, as a result of the mergers of the Southern Indiana Chamber of Commerce, the Southern Indiana Economic Development Council and SI 2020.

Business Resources, as the chamber side of the organization, encompasses membership, signature events and programs which support and encourage business growth. Ribbon-cutting ceremonies for new businesses, the Pearls of Wisdom speaker series, and a new mentoring program that connects young business professionals with experienced business owners and operators are a selection of the many activities and programs offered via the Business Resources team.

Since July of 2006, 1si also has worked with businesses to secure $775,358,148 in new taxable capital and commitments to add 9,650 jobs with a payroll of $340,041,234 annually in Southern Indiana. 1si also provides its economic development investors with a return on investment of $176.21 in new capital for each $1 invested into the program.

Since 1si’s inception, the organization has evolved to include a three-prong approach to serve its members and investors: Business Resources, Economic Development and Advocacy. The Business Resources efforts, noted earlier in this news release, complement the Economic Development and Advocacy outreach.

Economic Development works to grow the regional economy through the attraction of new commerce and assists with retention and expansion of existing businesses. Since July of 2006, 1si has worked with businesses to secure $775,358,148 in new taxable capital and commitments to add 9,650 jobs with a payroll of $340,041,234 annually in Southern Indiana. 1si also provides its economic development investors with a return on investment of $176.21 in new capital for each $1 invested into the program.

The third prong, Advocacy, supports businesses at the government level by engaging in initiatives to preserve, protect and promote a business friendly environment free of obstacles to growth and development of commerce. http://www.1si.org
