The business park is partnering with The Root in New Albany to establish the space, which will be spread across two buildings.
Novaparke said Wednesday the Whistlestop Building 1 will include four private offices and a coworking space. Building 2 will feature two large coworking spaces and an event space.
The spaces will be open to solo entrepreneurs and others looking for a work space. Those who end up occupying the spaces will also have access to The Root’s primary coworking space in New Albany, and vice versa.
The buildings are the first two of four on a historic, 40-acre farmstead that are being redeveloped for the business park. The second two will open in the future as part of the second phase of the Novaparke project.
“As the project progresses and tenants find their place in Novaparke, the people who utilize our co-working spaces will find themselves in close proximity to companies in leading edge sectors like aerospace, biotechnology, software development and more,” said Don Lopp, who oversees development of the campus. “They’ll also have access to high-speed internet and a planned 5,000-square-foot wet/dry laboratory space.”
The campus sits on 60 acres near I-64 in Edwardsville and is designed to promote entrepreneurship and small business development. In addition to the existing buildings that are being redeveloped, there are 14 lots on the property that can house numerous additional facilities as the campus grows.
The wet/dry lab space is planned for the second phase of the project and will primarily be used by Indiana University Southeast’s Natural Science Department and the public. Phase 2 will also have additional office and entrepreneurial space for small businesses.
In an October 2022 interview with Inside INdiana Business, Lopp said IU Southeast will be a key tenant for the business park.
“[The university] is a partnering with us in developing not only startup businesses, but also helping small businesses through the business process – business plans, marketing, and product development as well.”
The new coworking spaces are set to open on July 15.
