Beginning July 1, the health system will be known as Powers Health, which it says marks a strategic evolution and unites the brand “under one clear and distinct identity.”
Powers Health said in a news release the new name is not reflective of a merger or acquisition, but a “deliberate step toward presenting our organization as an integrated system of care.”
The new name is in honor of Donald S. Powers, who is one of five land developers to donate land and funding to build the original Community Hospital.
Powers was one of the original directors and president of Community Foundation, which later became Community Foundation of Northwest Indiana Inc., the parent of Community Healthcare System.
“We will continue to invest resources throughout northwest Indiana by building new facilities and expanding services,” Donald Fesko, CEO of Community Foundation of Northwest Indiana Inc., said in the release. “With the support of some of the area’s most talented medical professionals, we are proud to have earned numerous national accreditations and distinguished recognitions for high-quality care and innovative technology.”
Powers Health said with numerous health care systems also using “Community” in their names, including Community Health Network in Indianapolis, the rebranding establishes its own unique identity.
The health system said its hospital names will remain the same, though some of its operations will see name changes, including:
- Community Stroke & Rehabilitation Center name changes to Powers Health Rehabilitation Center.
- All location-based or hospital-based health center names change to Powers Health Outpatient Center.
- Community Care Network, Inc. name changes to Powers Health Medical Group.
Powers Health said it will actively engage with employees, patients and the community regarding the transition.
