The company says the project is part of a long-term effort to modernize its gas and electric infrastructure.
Construction will begin next month to replace 3.5 miles of underground natural gas transmission lines. The work is expected to be completed in November.
NIPSCO says notifications have been sent to residents in the immediate area of where the work will be performed. The company says it will work with both towns to keep residents notified of project schedules, closures of roads and bike trails and any other necessary updates.
NIPSCO says the new natural gas lines will provide safer and more reliable service to residents and businesses. When the entire modernization project is completed, NIPSCO will have installed 80 miles of new transmission lines.
