New Perry County homes on the way after August lot lottery

Subscribe NowPerry County will soon be home to 27 new houses, increasing local housing inventory, using a significant state appropriation to kickstart the development. Housing lots will be auctioned for development in late August.
The new Forest Canton Heights subdivision is located just north of Tell City at the junction of State Roads 37 and 237. The full cost of the project will be $1.8 million with $5.8 million expected to be generated, said Erin Emerson, CEO & president of the Perry County Development Corp.
The lots are $15,000 each and range from a half acre to an acre. All will have access to electric, gas, water, wastewater and high-speed fiber internet. Single-family home construction will need to begin within one year and be completed within a year and a half.
The project was led by the Perry County Redevelopment Commission along with the PCDC. The organizations partnered to received $775,000 in Regional Economic Acceleration & Development Initiative, or READI, funding. Additional funding was sourced from Perry County ARP funds, City of Tell City ARP funds and excess TIF funds.
“Increasing housing inventory is key to our regional plan and this project provided an excellent opportunity to collaborate with local leaders to strategically address a critical need,” Emerson said in a news release.
A lottery for lots will be at 6:30 p.m. central Aug. 23 at the Perry County Courthouse. Participants do not have reside in the count or the state. Individuals and homebuilders have equal opportunity in the lottery.
