New Leader For Alcohol Code Commission

Subscribe NowIndiana House Speaker Brian Bosma (R-88) has appointed former State Representative Bill Davis to chair the Alcohol Code Revision Commission. The commission is set to complete its two-year charge of reviewing Indiana’s alcohol laws and submitting recommendations to the Indiana General Assembly.
Bosma’s office says when the commission meets this summer, it will examine ways to reduce complexity and improve consistency in Indiana’s alcohol licensing system, evaluate the current quota structure for providing alcohol licenses, and study over-consumption at retail outlets, hours of sale, and the impact on DUI rates, sexual assaults and public safety.
Davis was elected to the Indiana house in 2004 and served as chair of the House Public Policy Committee from 2011 to 2013. He left the legislature to become director of the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs before retiring in 2014.
"During Bill’s service to the General Assembly, especially as chair of the Public Policy Committee, he always demonstrated strong leadership skills, integrity and the right temperament when handed tough issues," Bosma said in a news release. "His strong background in the private and public sectors will help him lead the commission as they focus this summer on improving Indiana’s alcohol licensing laws and evaluating the impacts of over-consumption."
The commission first convened last summer, focusing on recommendations for the retail sector of Indiana’s alcohol laws. The Indiana General Assembly acted on those recommendations by passing Senate Enrolled Act 1, which allowed for carryout alcohol sales on Sundays.
