Smurfit director of Notre Dame Dublin. The university said Wednesday that Clowry Delaney will be responsible for implementing its vision and global strategy in Ireland.
In her new role, which she began on July 1, Clowry Delaney will be tasked with “deepening Notre Dame’s relationships with Ireland’s premiere universities and institutions of culture, government and industry,” Notre Dame said.
She succeeds Kevin Whelan, who has served as inaugural director since 1998 and will shift to teaching and research.
“I am excited to lead a dedicated team that serves our undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, visiting scholars and the wider Notre Dame family,” Clowry Delaney said in a news release. “I am committed to deepening the connections between Ireland and Notre Dame.”
Clowry Delaney joined the University of Notre Dame in 2008, most recently serving as senior associate director in Dublin. She established a new collaborative research program with Dublin City University focused on climate, water and citizen science activism, along with a semester-long sustainability fellows program open to all Notre Dame study abroad students, the university said.
“Eimear is an outstanding leader in global education, and has developed immersive education programs and innovative research collaborations that are flourishing for the benefit of our students, faculty and the wider community,” Vice President and Associate Provost for Internationalization Michael Pippenger said. “I am excited for her to bring her own expertise and vision to the role.”
Prior to joining Notre Dame, Clowry Delaney held various roles with University College Dublin and Massey University in New Zealand. She is currently pursuing a doctorate in education at Dublin City University.
