Heicher previously served as vice chancellor for academic affairs in Kokomo and has held the chancellor position on an interim basis since January.
Heicher joined Ivy Tech in 2009 as a professor of English and chair of the Humanities program. The college says he has more than two decades of instructional and administrative experience at community colleges.
Ivy Tech President Sue Ellspermann says Heicher “will be crucial in supporting the community’s economic and workforce development initiatives.”
“The role of Ivy Tech has evolved to meet the everchanging needs of the Kokomo region, but its mission to serve the community has remained the same,” Heicher said in written remarks. “I would like to thank President Ellspermann and Provost Dean McCurdy for their leadership, as well as my colleagues and our community partners for their daily reminder of what a mission-driven community college can do.”
Heicher succeeds McCurdy, who left the position in January to become interim provost for Ivy Tech. McCurdy was officially named provost in May.
In addition to his duties at Ivy Tech, Heicher is a member of the Regional Economic Acceleration and Development Initiative (READI) grant planning committee for the Kokomo area.
Ivy Tech’s Kokomo campus serves Cass, Fulton, Howard, Miami, Pulaski and Tipton counties.
