Our partners at The Herald Bulletin in Anderson report the proposed Fieldhouse Apartments will involve 44 apartments for low-income residents. Plans from Indianapolis-based EquiTeam LLC call for the three-story complex to be built on a 7.6-acre plot that previously served as athletic fields.
The Wigwam itself closed in 2011 after years of serving as one of the most well-known high school basketball gyms in the state. It is currently undergoing redevelopment efforts by Indianapolis-based Black and White Investments and Pinebrook Properties, who came together in late-2014 to save the historic venue from demolition. Plans for the Wigwam have called for turning much of the complex into 55 housing units, creating office and community space with other parts and renovating the famed gymnasium through a separate partnership.
The Herald Bulletin reports BWI, JobSource and Aspire Indiana are working on efforts through the Wigwam Talent and Development Center to connect local residents to jobs, career pathways and healthy lifestyle services. The complex is currently home to a new Jane Pauley Health Center.
