RxLightning, which has developed a software platform designed to streamline the enrollment process for specialty medications, says the partnership is already reducing turnaround time for patients of AON healthcare providers to receive lifesaving medications.
AON represents 108 physicians and 86 nurse practitioners and physician assistants practicing in 16 states.
RxLightning’s platform connects everyone involved with the enrollment for specialty medications, including prescribers, specialty pharmacies, manufacturers, hubs, payers and foundations, in order to provide quicker access to more than 1,200 specialty medications, including those related to oncology.
AON says it began integrated the platform in May, and says early results are showing the time patients have to wait for medication enrollment reduce from over week to less than one day for 79% of patients.
“In a space where specialty medications often cost thousands of dollars, financial toxicity and the enrollment process for assistance can be very burdensome on the patient,” AON Senior Pharmacy Director Doug Braun said in written remarks. “Having the ability to avoid the lengthy process of manually filling out and mailing forms back and forth between the pharmacy, patient, clinic and manufacturer can significantly reduce the time to get access to medications, which is critical to the overall health success of cancer patients.”
Last month, RxLightning announced plans to invest $500,000 to expand its New Albany headquarters and up to 175 jobs over the next several years.
The startup was a big winner at this year’s TechPoint Mira Awards, taking home Tech Product of the Year and Startup of the Year honors.
