Chief Information Officer Dewand Neely is leaving November 22 to become chief operating officer of Eleven Fifty Academy, a nonprofit group that trains people in computer coding.
Neely told the online technology news site StateScoop.com he was not looking to leave state work, but he sees the new job as an opportunity to still work in public service.
“You get a different level of satisfaction from public service than you do from the private sector,” said Neely. “I always told myself if I had to leave it would be hard to find something that gets me excited and fulfills me besides public service.”
Neely told the publication he put cybersecurity, interagency-data sharing and digital government at the top of his agenda when he assumed the CIO role in 2015.
“He was one of the initial employees when the state’s Office of Technology launched and always has been an integral part of ensuring Indiana is providing great government service,” says Governor Eric Holcomb. “Dewand has a heart for public service and an outstanding work ethic. While we will miss Dewand’s daily presence in state government, I am pleased he will continue to help Indiana in his new role by growing our Hoosier workforce at Eleven Fifty Academy.”
