Dometic Corp., a Sweden-based company with multiple U.S operations, issued a notice to the state saying the plant is shutting down by March 31 and 197 workers will be laid off.
Dometic’s LaGrange plant produces fabric awnings for the recreational vehicle industry. The company also has a facility in Elkhart, supplying other equipment to the RV industry.
In a statement to WNDU-TV, the company said it will “work closely with state and local government officials to coordinate services that will help the affected workers with job search assistance, education and training opportunities, and to minimize the difficult impacts of the layoff.”
The statement also says the company is transferring its awnings production to an existing facility in Mexico.
