National Urban League Conference Begins in Indy

The last time the National Urban League held its national conference in Indianapolis, President Bill Clinton was still in his first term in office. The year was 1994. Now, 25 years later, the National Urban League will once again conduct its summer conference in Circle City. The conference begins Wednesday and runs through Saturday. The theme of the 2019 conference is "Getting 2 Equal: United Not Divided."

In February, when the organization announced Indianapolis would host the national meeting, National Urban League CEO Marc Morial attributed the support of the business and political communities as a major reason Indianapolis was selected. Morial talked with Inside INdiana Business Reporter Mary-Rachel Redman about the decision. You can watch the interview here. 

Morial says the conference will feature discussions and debates about a variety of issues, including housing, jobs, education, and environmental justice.

According to our partners at WTHR, several Democratic presidential candidates are expected to attend the conference, including Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Cory Booker and Pete Buttigieg.
